ANDERSON, S.C. — The Federal Election Commission says it has closed its investigation into a former aide to U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.

The FEC announced that Jennifer Adams had signed a conciliation agreement admitting she violated federal campaign finance laws and had paid a civil penalty of $2,500.

In November, a judge sentenced Adams to 18 months in prison after she pleaded guilty to taking $280,000 from the Republican's campaign accounts. Adams was also ordered to pay back the money.

Prosecutors said Adams took the money from Graham's campaign for several years starting in 2002 when she worked as his campaign administrator.

Graham campaign manager Scott Farmer says the campaign is glad the matter is over.
