Stein Mart closing Aiken store

A three-year-old Stein Mart clothing store in Aiken will close this summer.

A going-out-of-business sale will begin in May, said company spokeswoman Susan Edelman. The store in Hitchcock Plaza on Silver Bluff Road will close in “late summer,” she said, once the liquidation has concluded.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Stein Mart is closing more than 10 underperforming stores this year, Ms. Edelman said.

"Despite the fact we have great customers and associates in all of these stores, the times and the economics of the situation are that we have to close about a dozen stores this year,” Ms. Edelman said.

A typical Stein Mart store employs 45 people, she said.

The Aiken store opened in 2006. The company has 276 stores across the country, including one in Augusta.

That's sad, I really enjoy shopping at that store. Great merchandise and great prices.

Glad to hear it, you wash

Glad to hear it, you wash those clothes once and they fall a part or fade.
