For the fourth time in five meetings this season, the Augusta GreenJackets dropped a game to the division rival Savannah Sand Gnats. On a night when Cal Ripken Jr. was in attendance, the GreenJackets failed to produce offensively in a home-opening 3-1 loss.

Kyle Nicholson (0-2) got the loss after giving up three earned runs in four innings, while Savannah starter Chris Schwinden (2-0) got the win.

Jordany Valdespin homered for Savannah.

Augusta reliever Daniel Runzler struck out five of the seven batters he faced to shut out the visiting Sand Gnats over the final two innings.
