Ga. man accused of attempting murder for hire

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Federal authorities in Alabama say they have arrested a Georgia man accused of trying to have seven people killed.

The FBI said 54-year-old Dwight Herschel Green of Rome, Ga., was arrested Thursday morning on a highway between Cedar Bluff and Centre, Ala.

Authorities said Green was accused of soliciting a contract killing against four people from Alabama and three more from Georgia. No one was killed. He also is accused of trying to obtain explosives.

An FBI news release said Green wanted people killed because they were cooperating with law enforcement and also had private conflicts with him. Authorities haven't given additional details about the possible motive.

Federal court records don't indicate whether Green has an attorney, and a call to his home telephone number wasn't immediately returned.
