Meeting to address changes in Marshall Square plan

Site plan revisions made to an Evans planned unit development will go before the Columbia County Planning Commission for a second time tonight.

Recent changes to Marshall Square, located across from Ronald Reagan Drive, will be discussed at the planning and zoning board’s meeting at 6 p.m. at the Evans Government Center auditorium, 630 Ronald Reagan Drive. A public hearing to discuss the revisions also will be held.

Revisions to the 2007 plan were tabled by the planning commission Feb. 5.

The main changes to the 47-acre, mixed-use development focused on separating residential units from commercial buildings and eliminating a high-rise residential tower.

After the plans were tabled, developers made additional changes and revealed them during a public work session last month.

Those plans, which were not finalized, showed the addition of a public square between two residential and two retail buildings with commercial units occupying the first floors of both residential buildings closest to the square.

Four “live/work” buildings were shown fronting Evans Town Center Boulevard.

Also, additional safety features were added to each apartment building, according to the developer’s presentation.
