ATLANTA — Georgia Power Company and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation still have about 43,000 customers without power after severe thunderstorms and high winds moved through the --state.

Georgia Power said today it still has 39,000 customers without electricity, 33,000 of those in the immediate Atlanta area. GEMC says about 4,000 customers remain without power, down 11,000 from Monday night and 41,000 at the height of the storm.

Georgia Power spokeswoman Konswello Monroe says the heaviest concentration of outages are in the Decatur and Buckhead areas of metro Atlanta. Ms. Monroe says power may not be restored to all customers until Wednesday evening.

She says about 250,000 initially were without power.

GEMC spokeswoman Terri Statham says most of their outages should be restored this morning.
