Augusta reminds residents on disposal of weekend storm debris

  • Follow Latest News

Augusta Richmond County Solid Waste wants to remind local residents of the correct way to dispose of debris and waste brought on by last weekend’s tornadoes and storms.

Residents who would like their yard waste picked up by the solid waster department must:

•Put all pine straw, grass clippings, leaves and other loose yard waste debris bags or 32-gallon or smaller open topped containers

•Be sure that each container does not exceed 50 pounds

• Only use paper bags, not plastic ones

• Avoid putting yard waste on a tarp

• Be sure that individual tree limbs and branches do not exceed five feet in length or five inches and diameter

• Remember to put yard waste out the night before pick up

Anyone with questions about proper yard waste guidelines, can call 706.592.3200 or

e-mail at solidwaste@augustaga.gov.

They covered "yard" waste,

They covered "yard" waste, but how about the waste that resulted from your tool shed being blown down?

I've made a few typos myself

I've made a few typos myself through the years, but I thought this one was funny: "Residents who would like their yard waste picked up by the solid waster department must . . . " I knew there were a lot of city employees who were time wasters, but a whole department of "solid wasters," that is impressive!

Hey, what's so bad about

Hey, what's so bad about putting leaves and sticks on a tarp? The tarp can be used to lift the stuff into the truck and then can be used again (that is, if the solid wasters don't steal the tarp).
