Accident injures Masters visitors

Two women in town for the Masters Tournament were injured this afternoon when an SUV crashed into a recreational vehicle not far from the Augusta National Golf Club.

The RV was leaving the tournament area via Boy Scout Road at 3:18 p.m. when an SUV going south ran a red light and struck the driver side of the RV, said Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy Kyle Michau.

The SUV driver and passenger, both from Texas, were transported to Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics, Deputy Michau said. The passenger will require surgery for a thumb injury, but both women are in stable condition.

The driver and passengers in the RV, who are from California, were unharmed. Traffic was backed up for about an hour after the accident.

The driver of the SUV was charged with failure to obey a traffic-controlled device, police said.
