COLUMBIA — Forecasters say an approaching cold front could bring severe thunderstorms today to western South Carolina.

The National Weather Service says the greatest risk for strong storms today will be north of Interstate 20 and west of Interstate 77.

Forecasters say the biggest risk is from hail and strong winds, but there is a chance of tornadoes too.

The storms should move across the state from 4 p.m. to midnight.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the western half of the state under a moderate risk of severe storms, which only happens a handful of times a year.
