Need for bathroom on flight leads to felony charge

  • Follow Latest News

ATLANTA — A man rushing to get to the restroom on an international Delta Air Lines flight has been charged with assault, accused of twisting a flight attendant's arm.

Joao Correa of Concord, Ohio, says he had a bathroom emergency but his path was blocked by a beverage cart during the March 28 flight from Honduras to Atlanta. He asked if he could use the lavatory in business class, but was told no.

Federal Aviation Administration policy requires passengers on international flights to use the restroom in their seating class.

Authorities say the 43-year-old man is accused of pulling and twisting the flight attendant's arm. He was arrested when the plane landed in Atlanta and charged with assault.

Correa was released after two nights in jail, pending a hearing.

That gives new meaning to an "inflight emergency." Maybe flight attendants should start serving punch from the beverage cart.

This is obsurd, when a passenger has an emergency then class should not matter. This could have been avoided, perhaps if he had crapped and stunk up the plane then they would really see what an emergency is..............what a joke.

If you have to go to the rest

If you have to go to the rest room and some one is in your way, you ask them to move and they don't then you would move them nicely right. seems pretty simple to me

Heartless, stupid flight

Heartless, stupid flight attendant. She deserves what she got and I hope the judges sees it the same way. Perhaps as an alternative he could have just opened up and used his barf bag, and then handed it to her. Those beverage carts are a freaking menace.

He should have been allowed

He should have been allowed to go..... However, he shouldn't have touched her. Maybe a citation or something would have been more appropriate... and a reduction on his fare!

Ok....I must be missing

Ok....I must be missing something here. The rules state that he is not allowed to use the first class restroom. Are you telling me there is not a restroom in coach? Why did he proceed to break the rules set forth by the 'Private" airline? Couldn't he just as easily used the restroom designated for his seat? NO....that would not have stirred a constroversy. IMHO they did the right thing in arresting him because of the assault on the attendant. No matter what happened, he was in the wrong from the start. Rules are put in place for a reason and if challenged, must be done in the proper way, not like this.

you're right, he should have

you're right, he should have just pooped in the aisle. the article states he couldn't get the coach bathroom because the aisle was blocked. the ajc article on this says that he remained in the bathroom for most of the flight with, em, intestinal distress. this was a serious emergency bathroom situation that the FA mishandled. he'll end up suing her and delta--and win.

What happens if the coach rr

What happens if the coach rr is out of order? Rules can be bent in an urgent s#ituation. I hope he sues Queen-B-of-the-U and the Airline, and wins.

I had the identical situation

I had the identical situation happen to me. They REFUSED to move their beverage carts. I was on the floor, I was in so much pain I couldn't stand, and passengers were SCREAMING at the attendants to let me use the restroom. I was crying with pain and the 1st class attendant just stared at me (dumb little twit) and finally a man stood up and said, "You WILL let this lady use the restroom!" I pushed past the attendant and used the first-class restroom. After I got off the flight, I complained, and they told me from now on, tell the attendants when I get on the flight. Thank God for ADA. And yes, it was Delta.

A bathroom is a bathroom. The

A bathroom is a bathroom. The logical policy is that when the path is blocked and the passenger reports they can not wait then let them use the nearest bathroom. There may be more to this story then the press reports, but if the facts are as presented here, Delta handled this very poorly. The passenger erred in touching the employee, but 2 nights in jail for having to use a restroom is idiotic. We have serious crimes being committed all the time and your average criminal spends less than that in jail before being released.

I personally don't fly, if I

I personally don't fly, if I was meant to i'd have wings. But if I had a medical condition and had to use the bathroom I would go by any means necessary. When you're in pain and someone is in your way that's an automatic pass on criminal charges to use the bathroom. This flight attendant should be ashamed, I hope he sues. This should not have had to go that far, let the man use the restroom. They should make the flight attendants park those carts in the back and walk back and forth to get items off it.

He should have just dropped

He should have just dropped his pants and cr*pped in the aisle. Then the nice flight attendant could have spent the rest of the flight cleaning it and the rest of the mess from folks tossing their cookies. Of course they'd charge him for that too. panther; As Lewis Grizzard used to say "Man was not meant to fly-sober".
