Club Car lays off 50 workers

Club Car laid off 50 workers globally today, 40 from its facility in Evans, the company announced this afternoon.

Club Car CEO Gary Michel said the personnel reductions came from “all levels and all functions” of the golf car manufacturing company.

Club Car, a division of Ingersoll Rand, employs 900 people globally with 850 of them in Augusta.

Mr. Michel said the company had shed some of its payroll through attrition over the last year and hired fewer temporary workers to operate the manufacturing plant.

“The market environment has been softer than we would have hoped it would be. The business is fine, but our revenue numbers are down. We felt we had to do appropriate things, not just people actions, but there are cost reductions around the business,” Mr. Michel explained.

The company is helping displaced workers with professional placement services and a severance package.

I wonder if the employees found out before the press release or if Club Car is like the a-holes at Husqvarna?

The moral to the story is to not get a job that is dependent on the bloated ruling class using your product for recreation. Those of us that voted for President Obama to stick to the man are sure winning now. Are we not?

To all the great people that

To all the great people that work at Club Car, keep the faith. You have created a great company, one that may be taking a hit in this economy but it will bounce back. I left last year and miss working there everyday.

JohnBoy while you speak the

JohnBoy while you speak the truth and you can claim that with any president, the massive amounts of bailout money that has been given should have resolved at least some of the issues. If Club Car and all the "bloated ruling class" saw great revenue in the future they would not lay off right now. The problem as I see it is that we will ALL suffer even more financial setbacks rather future financial gain. Time will tell all. Remember this also; we can't blame Obama alone, there are other democrats to blame. We need to remember ALL who led us astray next round of votes.

NO, this is NOT a Bush mess.

NO, this is NOT a Bush mess. This is a Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank AND Obama mess. Things were doing great until Pelosi and Reid took control of congress. Dodd and Frank have DIRECT LINKS to the real estate collapse. Dodd was the LARGEST RECIPIENT of cash from AIG, with Obama being second. Next we'll be reading that Obammy is going to fire the CEO of Club Car and appoint one of HIS cronies to totally destroy the business. Sorry, but you can't blame Bush any more. This is now an Obammy economy.

What do any of these

What do any of these politicians, Republican or Democrat care about people getting laid off? They (Dems/Repubs) have their cushy jobs with their high dollar pay, private planes, nice houses, luxury vacations, etc. that we are paying for. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican AND are classified as middle income, we are getting screwed like never before. Those who were just laid off will be able to find other jobs, but most likely not in this area. The Augusta area is a dead zone when it comes to hiring. My heart goes out to all of the families that are affected by this most recent layoff. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that my husband does not lose his job...he works for a tire company in South Carolina and you know how the auto industry is.....in the CRAPPER. So we are hanging on as tight as we can to the rope, but it is slowly slipping through our hands. Good Luck to those who still have a job and to those who have been flung into the abyss known as the Georgia Department of Labor.

Why is Obama picking on the auto industry? If this is going to be his policy(firing CEOs), why didn't he start with AIG? Of course who wants to own an insurance company anyway. Insurace is an intangible product,You can't touch it, feel it, smell it, see it, or hear it. But wait unitl the first Obamamobile rolls off the assembly line! Yes, he will leave a worldwide legacy.

message....I have yet to see or hear the report that the majority of people laid off were African-Americans. Why does everything have to be a black/white thing??? Oh and by the way, 2 of my neighbors were laid off/given severence packages by Club Car and they are WHITE! You need to do some research before you start posting comments when you dont have all of the facts! Also, the Congress and the President do control what happens on the state and local level. It all trickles down from the top!
