A bill to restructure the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority has passed in the state House.

According to a news release from Rep. Henry “Wayne” Howard, the bill passed Monday sets up a seven-member board – three appointed by the five Augusta commissioners from each of the two super districts, with a chairman appointed by the legislative delegation who only votes to break a tie.

Unlike a previous draft that has been circulating, the legislation passed in the House bars current coliseum authority members from being reappointed for one year.

This just shows how screwed

This just shows how screwed up GA politics are. Why does the state legislature have to get involved in local politics. This should be done at the county level. Georgia...the backwards state...no Sunday liquor sales, and the state controls local government. Bunch of clowns!

potaters, That is because the idiots that run this county couldn't get it right. So just as congress oversaw the changes in sports, the state government is making sure the county does the right thing. Now the only problem I see is trying to get the idiots in the commission to agree on 3 people. Gonna be hard to find 3 white-black, male-females to sit in these positions. Since they are always split down racial lines.

Oh boy...another board with a member that can only vote to break a tie! And we know how often we have a tie with all the abstentions and walking out of the meeting.

Good move ... reduce the number of people to place the same amount of blame on for a mis-managed project since the beginning! If the legislature wanted to fix the problem they should have authorized a demolition contract for the place.
