Ripken to attend GreenJackets opener

Cal Ripken Jr. will help the Augusta GreenJackets open the home portion of the 2009 season with an appearance at Lake Olmstead Stadium on April 16.

The team, owned by Ripken Baseball Group, announced last week that the Baseball Hall of Famer planned to attend a GreenJackets game this season. A statement released by the team Monday said the visit has been set for the home opener against the Savannah Sand Gnats on Thursday, April 16 at 7:35 p.m.

The club also said Ripken’s appearance will be one of as many as three visits he’ll make to Lake Olmstead Stadium this season.

“The other dates have yet to be determined but most likely will be in June and August,” the club said in the release.

Ripken’s visit will be the first public appearance he’s made at a GreenJackets game in almost two years. Individual tickets to the season opener are available at the Lake Olmstead Stadium box office.

It's good that Cal is coming

It's good that Cal is coming back to Augusta. The Greenjackets are one of the best-run minor league organizations in the Minors.
