Rebecca Bowers Sears, 41, and her son, Christopher Sean Bowers, 19, were charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the death of a 41-year-old Laverne Katherine Parsons.

Mrs. Parsons, of 229 Hot Springs Drive, was found beaten in her home Wednesday morning.

Ms. Sears, of 227 Hot Springs Drive, and Mr. Bowers, of 4086 Briarwood Drive, Martinez, were arrested Friday just before midnight, said Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

“The past 72 hours have been busy, yet very productive,” he said Saturday morning.

Authorities believed Mrs. Parsons was attacked at her home in Orchard Hill subdivision at about 9 a.m. Wednesday after she returned home from dropping off her son at school.

Capt. Morris said search warrants were executed at the residences of Ms. Sears, Mrs. Parsons and Mr. Bowers. Ms. Sears’ Infiniti also was seized by police, he said.

Police also obtained a search warrant for Healing Hands Physical Therapy Center on Highland Avenue, where Ms. Sears works. Ms. Parsons had worked in the Thomson location of the therapy center, according to the company’s Web site, which was taken down Friday.

Ms. Sears was shot in the leg Thursday night outside her workplace, according to Richmond County police.

Police initially thought Mrs. Parsons walked in on a burglary at her home. Deputies found her lying on a garage floor next to a baseball bat and claw hammer, the weapons used to attack her, said Columbia County Deputy Coroner Harriett Garrison.

A Friday autopsy revealed that Mrs. Parsons died of blunt force trauma to the head, Mrs. Garrison said.

A contractor who arrived to work at the home Wednesday called police to report glass from a French door at the rear of the home had been shattered.

When deputies arrived at Mrs. Parsons’ home Wednesday, Ms. Sears and her sons also were present, according to a police report. However, the report did not specify the names of the sons.

Ms. Sears initially followed a deputy as he first entered her home, but was escorted back out when the deputy saw blood on a couch and living room rug, according to the report. The deputy also said he found blood on the walls and floor.

On the same day as the break-in at Mrs. Parsons’ home, Ms. Sears reported that her home was burglarized. She told police that she left her house at 6:50 a.m. to take her children to school, according to an incident report. At about 8:35 a.m., Ms. Sears said she returned home after her son, Michael Bowers, called her because the front door was open.

When police arrived to the scene, they noted in a report that the house had been ransacked, but found no signs of forced entry. Police did not provide a list of missing items.

Capt. Morris said Saturday that he could not further discuss details of the case, including a possible motive for the homicide.

“It’s not prudent for us to discuss details surrounding these developments,” he said. “You will learn exactly what happened and why at the appropriate time. Today is not the appropriate time.”

Capt. Morris said he doesn’t expect any more arrests to be made.

“Having said that, this is an ongoing investigation, and we never say never,” he said.

Ms. Sears and Mr. Bowers are being held at the Columbia County Detention Center without bond.

Where are all the racist

Where are all the racist comments? If this had been a black on white crime, the racist posters would have, called the killer, and his family everything but a child of god.The day that this occured, posters were blaming this crime on blacks, that moved into the neighborhood, on section8. This just proves, whites kill just like blacks. So when something like this happens, stop speaking on , was the killer white or black.A killer is a killer, regardless of his/her race!!!

This is so sad- I just can't

This is so sad- I just can't stop thinking of what Mrs. Parsons must have thought about during the beating- and I do not want to think of what she must have physically had to endure. There are some sick people in the world and sometimes it seems the CSRA has more than it's share. I am praying for Mrs. Parson's family and hope they will be given all the strength they need in the coming days and months. I hope there is a way for them to understand that there are people that have never met them, as I, that are keeping them in our prayers--- and I know I am not the only one. Bet there are many police officers out there doing the same thing. Again, thanks everyone involved on this case in CCSD as well as RCSD for doing a super job. Ya'll are the best!

Once again I want to say,

Once again I want to say, "Good job Captain Steve Morris. You have some fine investigators working for you, but you are the man chosen by the Sheriff to be in charge and it shows. When Clay Whittle retires one day I hope you will be the man replacing him. You will continue the tradition that Otis Hensley began many years ago and that Clay Whittle continues today.
