Rebecca Bowers Sears, 41, and her son, Christopher Sean Bowers, 19, were charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the death of a 41-year-old Laverne Katherine Parsons.

Mrs. Parsons, of 229 Hot Springs Drive, was found beaten in her home Wednesday morning.

Ms. Sears, of 227 Hot Springs Drive, and Mr. Bowers, of 4086 Briarwood Drive, Martinez, were arrested Friday just before midnight, said Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

“The past 72 hours have been busy, yet very productive,” he said Saturday morning.

Authorities believed Mrs. Parsons was attacked at her home in Orchard Hill subdivision at about 9 a.m. Wednesday after she returned home from dropping off her son at school.

Capt. Morris said search warrants were executed at the residences of Ms. Sears, Mrs. Parsons and Mr. Bowers. Ms. Sears’ Infiniti also was seized by police, he said.

Police also obtained a search warrant for Healing Hands Physical Therapy Center on Highland Avenue, where Ms. Sears works. Ms. Parsons had worked in the Thomson location of the therapy center, according to the company’s Web site, which was taken down Friday.

Ms. Sears was shot in the leg Thursday night outside her workplace, according to Richmond County police.

Police initially thought Mrs. Parsons walked in on a burglary at her home. Deputies found her lying on a garage floor next to a baseball bat and claw hammer, the weapons used to attack her, said Columbia County Deputy Coroner Harriett Garrison.

A Friday autopsy revealed that Mrs. Parsons died of blunt force trauma to the head, Mrs. Garrison said.

A contractor who arrived to work at the home Wednesday called police to report glass from a French door at the rear of the home had been shattered.

When deputies arrived at Mrs. Parsons’ home Wednesday, Ms. Sears and her sons also were present, according to a police report. However, the report did not specify the names of the sons.

Ms. Sears initially followed a deputy as he first entered her home, but was escorted back out when the deputy saw blood on a couch and living room rug, according to the report. The deputy also said he found blood on the walls and floor.

On the same day as the break-in at Mrs. Parsons’ home, Ms. Sears reported that her home was burglarized. She told police that she left her house at 6:50 a.m. to take her children to school, according to an incident report. At about 8:35 a.m., Ms. Sears said she returned home after her son, Michael Bowers, called her because the front door was open.

When police arrived to the scene, they noted in a report that the house had been ransacked, but found no signs of forced entry. Police did not provide a list of missing items.

Capt. Morris said Saturday that he could not further discuss details of the case, including a possible motive for the homicide.

“It’s not prudent for us to discuss details surrounding these developments,” he said. “You will learn exactly what happened and why at the appropriate time. Today is not the appropriate time.”

Capt. Morris said he doesn’t expect any more arrests to be made.

“Having said that, this is an ongoing investigation, and we never say never,” he said.

Ms. Sears and Mr. Bowers are being held at the Columbia County Detention Center without bond.

halfpint please read

halfpint please read http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/042004/met_776417.shtml

I think this was brought up due to the speculation that the murder happened "when Mrs. Parsons walked in during a robbery".

Sorry I did not make that clear.

jubal, once again, the CC

jubal, once again, the CC website says the primary charge is murder, not conspiracy. Although that's probably coming. 411, I may be confused, but I know I read somewhere that he has a drug and DUI arrest? Help me out with this.

up2nogood... Please don't let

up2nogood... Please don't let this turn negative or racist because I am only trying to make a point about our attitudes. The 13 y/o black middle school student was accidently shot and killed by a handgun that someone else stole and brought to his home. People on this site began calling his family low income thugs or section 8 scum that basically got what he deserved. I am simply making the point that, "Immorality has no race, gender, or address". These unfortunate things happened to people without discrimination and that we must stop attributing crimes to blacks that live in south Augusta. Obviously this is a crime committed by a white female from one of Augusta better middle class nieghborhoods. If nothing else, we all must walk away understanding that immoraility happens everywhere and we must learn to trust God and one another. How long can we live together believing blacks are criminals & whites are not? Blacks are drug dealers & whites are not? The safest place to live is not Columbia county, but everywhere that makes room for God to dwell among us. God bless the Rhodes, Sears, & Parsons because these families should not have to be insulted through their tragedies. Peace..

He has an arrrest for driving

He has an arrrest for driving under the influence of drugs and illegal lane change. He tested positive for a pain killer that he had a legal prescription for because of an injury. I agree w/ the postings talking about letting the rumors rest and allow the truth to come out. All of this can not be good for the family members left behing in this tragedy on both sides.

There is a piece of this

There is a piece of this puzzle that is still missing. If these two were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, that means someone still has to be charged with commiting murder. Who that is, whether he is already in jail, or is still roaming the streets as a free man is yet to be seen. In the meantime, a mother has lost her life in a senseless crime, and everyione should be praying for the Parsons family.

And once again, the AC says

And once again, the AC says this happened in Grovetown... NOT ANYWHERE NEAR Grovetown. Try up near Columbia Rd. May be a Grovetown mailing address, but then so is mine & I live out close to Harlem. Is it too hard to just say Columbia County?

yankee, The dui for drugs

yankee, The dui for drugs wasn't a legal prescription pain killer, it was pot. Last I checked, GA doesn't do medical marijuana.

not by no means, potheads

not by no means, potheads dont do things like this. Alcohol would lead to this before pot would unlss it was a big deal with a lot of money owed involved. But a small time pot head, no way. Either dealing or harder drugs, or a different motive all together.

We have an excellent

We have an excellent sheriff's department in Columbia County. I have known Steve Morris for 25 years and worked with him closely when he first started out in law enforcement. I used to back him up if he needed help then and I would do it now (and for the others) even though I no longer work in law enforcement. I attended his wedding many years ago. He was there when I was having a difficult time a couple of years ago. I can say that he is a caring and professional man who I am very proud to know. He is dedicated to this county and the people who live here. Thanks Clay and Steve for your dedication. Thank you Ronnie Strength and RCSD for showing that your department can work together with others in this area.

Rose, I think mom was leading

Rose, I think mom was leading the charge. She's gonna be charged as soon as dumazz son starts squealing. According to the CC website, murder is what she was booked for. Indictment is another thing. Guilty (or plea, although I don't see that happening) is still another thing.

Everyone is dicussing,

Everyone is dicussing, commenting, speculating, guessing, trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Hey, this is news! It's a murder, not a spilled cup of coffee. No one made it up just to slander another. A woman is bludgeoned to death and everyone is horrified! I bet folks in that neighborhood were scared. I live near Healing Hands and I was more careful when I went out this morning before the arrests were made known. Why are so many folks all up in arms? It could have been an affair, or drugs, or a burglary. Whether it's on this forum or in the store, barbershop or around your kitchen table, everyone, yes everyone in Augusta is talking about this today.

This goes to show us all that

This goes to show us all that white trash can even live in an upscale Columbia County neighborhood. Geographical areas don't mean a thing. I posted a comment several months ago that said, "Columbia County residents would be terrified if they knew some of the people that lived in this county. Need I say more. What type of human being would beat somebody to death with a baseball bat and claw hammer? One living in a good neighborhood in Columbia County.
