A judge denied bond today for two Aiken County men arrested in February for trafficking marijuana.

Columbia County Chief Magistrate Bobby Christine denied bond for Isaac Lamont Lewis, 31, and Rufus Rukhan Hamilton, 30, at a preliminary hearing in Magistrate Court this afternoon.

Columbia County authorities arrested Mr. Lewis, of the 1300 block of Hampton Avenue, and Mr. Hamilton, of the 700 block of Oriole Street, on Feb. 27. Police say they found 400 pounds of marijuana, worth about $250,000, in a Flowing Wells Road storage unit rented by Mr. Lewis.

The arrests were the culmination of a month-long investigation involving the sheriff’s offices of Columbia, Richmond and Aiken counties and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Both men are being held in the Columbia County Detention Center, according to jail records. The case is being transferred to the Columbia County Superior Court, where the District Attorney’s Office will present evidence to a grand jury before the men can be indicted and tried.
