GREENWOOD, S.C. - Former Lander University President Bill Moran has died at age 73.

The school says Moran died Tuesday at Waccamaw Hospital in Murrells Inlet.

Moran was president of the Greenwood school for eight years starting in 1992.

Vice president for student affairs Randy Bouknight says Moran put students first and could often be found at sporting events, arts performances or walking around the courtyard at the school that has since been named for him.

Bouknight says Moran showed strong leadership, helping Lander through lean budget years and other problems.

Another administrator, Eleanor Teal, remembers Moran eating many meals in the dining hall because he wanted to be close to the students.
