Fort Gordon Forestry will be conducting a controlled burn at the military base until 2 p.m. today.
The forestry service is burning 510 acres in the middle of the base south of U.S. Highway 1, according to an e-mail from Columbia County Emergency and Operations Director Pam Tucker.
The purpose of the burn is “fuel reduction,” according to the e-mail.
