Lying to legislators could bring prison time

  • Follow Latest News

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Legislative panels would require people testifying at committee hearings to swear they're telling the truth under threat of prison time.

The Senate Judiciary Committee takes up legislation requiring sworn testimony when it meets Tuesday.

The legislation says people who know they're not telling the truth can be convicted of a felony and sent to prison for five years.

People who provide the legislature with misleading or false information in documents could be sent to jail for six months and fined $100.

Legislative panels have at times required people to give sworn testimony. But that's far from routine practice.

I hope the GA legislature

I hope the GA legislature doesn't pass legislation like this. Our GDC'll never come up with enough new bedspace to accommodate the ATL lobbying corps.

My thoughts

My thoughts exactly........Charging legislators with lying to their constituents and giving THEM jail time is a great idea. Just think, Obama would be facing THREE LIFE TERMS already for the whoppers HE has told.
