Isaac Lewis and Rufus Hamilton were charged with trafficking marijuana and are being held without bond at the Columbia County Detention Center, according to an e-mail sent by Columbia County sheriffs Capt. Steve Morris.
A search warrant was issued by the sheriffs office narcotics unit, and the drugs, with a street value of about $250,000, were found at about 9:30 a.m. at the Flowing Wells Industrial Park storage units located at 472 Flowing Wells Road, said Capt. Morris. Authorities seized 16 bags, each containing 25 pounds of marijuana, he said.
The storage unit was being rented by Mr. Lewis, Capt. Morris wrote.
A month-long investigation was conducted by the sheriffs offices of Richmond, Aiken and Columbia counties and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Aiken County authorities also searched Mr. Lewis house at the 1300 block of Hampton Avenue today at about 11:30 a.m. No additional drugs were found, but police did seize a Ford Explorer and utility trailer, which were used for the transportation of the marijuana, as well as a stolen motorcycle, said Aiken County sheriffs Capt. Troy Elwell.
Capt. Morris said the investigation is ongoing.
