FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Peach County authorities say a newborn girl was found in the toilet of a jail cell.

According to Sheriff Terry Deese, 25-year-old Cornelia Kornegay of Roberta had the infant in a holding cell Wednesday morning and told jailers her baby was in the toilet.

Deese said deputies found the infant upside down submerged in water, but the baby survived. He said jailers were unaware that Kornegay was pregnant.

Kornegay likely will face a charge of felony cruelty to children and other offenses. She was already being held at the facility for violating probation.

Deese said the infant, a 7 pound, 6-ounce girl was taken to a local hospital and was listed in good condition.

Right! lol I thought you gave

Right! lol I thought you gave birth to a baby not a toddler. Thank God the baby is ok but I want to know how the jailers were unaware that she was having a baby. Did they not hear her giving birth? Didn't they check on their prisoners? Surely she wasn't the only one there. Where were her cellmates?

Really!! There is NO WAY

Really!! There is NO WAY that women could have given birth without someone hearing her! Looks like the jailers need to be investigated and some charges placed on them as well. Thank the Lord that baby lived and I pray she will be placed in a Godly home with parents that will love her and take care of her the way a blessing from God should be taken care of.

Just to point out, there have

Just to point out, there have been times when a woman was overweight, that SHE did not even know she was pregnant. How many times have we heard this story about a woman giving birth in the toilet? If this person did not tell the jailers she was pregnant when she was being booked into the jail, then they may have had no reason to be concerned, and may have done their security checks on the regular schedule. There are too many unknowns in this story - who knows, maybe the incident does need to be investigated further. But the fact is, the woman left the child face down in the toilet, and thus the charge of cruelty to children is warranted.

I agree, she needs to be

I agree, she needs to be punished because why would you leave your child in that state when you already know what the outcome will be....DROWNING which is death.

Obviously some women's desire

Obviously some women's desire to hide a pregnancy can overcome the pain of childbirth, even students have given birth in schools and no one knew!!! I for one am not the silent type when in labor lol, but it may be possible. And if she was fat how could they know she was pregnant. But they do need to investigate to make sure she wasn't neglected, but given the fact she was letting her baby drown to death, I'd say its a pretty safe bet she hid the whole birth!!!!!!! Charge her with attempted murder!!

Ya'll are forgetting a few

Ya'll are forgetting a few things and assuming others. First of all, the chances that this "woman" has already had several children are pretty dang good. In that case, the chances of her having a child without alot of screaming-pain is highly possible, especially if she was pretty fat to begin with. And, as far as the jailers are concerned, ya'll need to remember that budget cuts, that have hit everybody and every place, have most likely caused the staff at this jail to be cut down to below the bare bones minimum! The jailer was probably checking on some other portion of the jail, or doing some other duty. Let's don't put any blame on the jailer. The problem is entirely on the piece of crap "mother". Wonder how long it'll be before they give her the child back???

It never ceases to amaze me

It never ceases to amaze me just how sick some people are. How can this female carry a baby for 9 months (I am guessing on the gestation period due to baby's weight) and just leave it in the toilet seemingly with absolutely no remorse? Sounds like some mental problems here...

You all need to wake up!

You all need to wake up! Barack Obama's "Freedom of Choice Act" would make something like this legal (in an abortion clinic) in the not so distant future...Obama is one of the very few pro-choice advocates who accepts no restrictions on late-term abortions, or any kind of abortions. I could find no instance in his entire career in which he voted for any regulation or restriction on the practice of abortion. Research this information for yourself...scary isn't it?

Concernmom, did it ever occur

Concernmom, did it ever occur to you that if someone is so evil as to deliberately abort a late-term baby without compelling medical reasons, that person would not care about laws? And did it occur to you that there are some women who have to have late-term abortions for medical reasons, and that is nobody's business but their own? Why don't you post your complete medical history here so that we can get up in your business, and make medical decisions for you, like you want to do with complete strangers?

Maybe-Just maybe-----this

Maybe-Just maybe-----this child's life story can be one of success. What a terrible place to start a life, in the toilet of a jail cell. Obviously this woman had to know she was pregnant, and even if she didn't, she should have had enough intelligence to alert the people in charge that she was in distress. There are so many inferences that can be derived from this article let's just hope the baby is in state custody and adopted by a deserving family.
