Glynn superintendent used school cell phone to solicit sex

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Fired Glynn County schools Superintendent Michael Bull used his school system BlackBerry to solicit sex over the Internet.

The Georgia Times-Union newspaper, under Georgia's open records law, obtained copies Tuesday of the graphic e-mails sent after midnight Feb. 18 in chat room-like conversations with five men and women.

Mr. Bull didn't respond to Times-Union efforts to contact him for comment. Neither he, nor his wife Nancy, returned voice mail messages left on each of their personal cell phones. No one answered the door at their St. Simons Island home. He previously declined comment about his dismissal.

The school board fired Mr. Bull on Friday after it learned he had used the BlackBerry to access a site that board Chairman Millard Allen described as pornographic.

The improper use of the BlackBerry, which is forbidden by school policy, was detected two days earlier and recorded by the school system's computer system. Upon learning of it, Mr. Allen called an emergency meeting Friday where members voted 5-0 to dismiss Mr. Bull for cause - improper use of school property.

Because he was fired for cause, Mr. Bull won't receive any severance or buyout money from the school system.

Mr. Bull sent the e-mails during Internet sessions while staying at a Savannah motel for a Regional Educational Service Agency meeting in Statesboro - more than 50 miles away.

Written in brief but lewd language, the e-mails solicited specific sexual acts and situations. In response, some people asked Mr. Bull for photographs, according to the e-mails.

Mr. Bull logged on with the BlackBerry and began the e-mails about 12:13 a.m. Feb. 18 He received his last e-mail at 9:59 a.m. the same day. Most of the e-mails were exchanged before 2 a.m.

Except for Mr. Bull, who used his school system e-mail address, the others were identified only by online user names and e-mail addresses. Mr. Bull also included a cellular telephone number that Tuesday was answered by a recording in his voice instructing callers to leave a message.

No photographs were transmitted. Nor is there any indication of child pornography, according to the e-mails.

Mr. Allen has said when confronted, Mr. Bull told the board that he'd had too much to drink and "did a very foolish thing."

Although shaken by the situation, board

members and school administrators, led by acting Superintendent Howard Mann, are focusing on moving forward.

"The sooner we get this behind us, the better. We need to get on with the business of educating children," Mr. Allen said Tuesday.

Mr. Allen said he's asked the board's Personnel Committee to consult with Marjorie Varnadoe, school system human resources director, about launching the search for a new superintendent.

Mr. Bull's dismissal came just over two months after the school board extended his contract for a year, through 2011, and gave him a nearly $6,500 raise to $167,648 a year.

I see a life style change,

I see a life style change, down sizing and possible divorce. In the mean time my son, a sophmore in high school sits in a lit . class with 30 students and the teacher is required to teach reading, critical thinking, and writing various essays to prepare for testing , all in a one hour class time. Quit waisting money on these people removed from reality and lower the child/teacher ratios or make these subjects 2 subjects. This is where our President needs to enforce REFORM!!!!!!!!!

I am sure he had too much to

I am sure he had too much to drink. Certainly, alcohol brings out hidden personality traits. Would alcohol make one man email another about having sex? Or were those traits already there, just waiting to be unleashed by imbibing in too much frivolity? It sounds like he would have been better off finding a late night bar to search for a partner for his sexual urges. He could have certainly explained those bags and dark circles under his eyes much easier than those emails on his cell phone. What is done in the dark will come to light, or be exposed compliments of AT&T.

How embarrassing this

How embarrassing this revelation about a SOS is! Of course, even more embarrassing should be the fact that former SOSs were allowed by sleepy populaces to sweep unsavory and illegal activities under their respective school systems' Karastans.

Poor fellow, he's been
Unpublished

Poor fellow, he's been disenfranchised and victimized by our society. He'll have one of those bailout jobs doing "educational research" on the affects of acrylic paint on schools -and probably get paid more for it.
