Aiken County investigators are searching for a man who robbed a dry cleaners in Belvedere this morning.

According to Capt. Troy Elwell of the sheriff’s office, a man wearing blue jeans, a denim jacket and a green skull cap entered the Belvedere Cleaners on South Carolina Highway 125 about 9 a.m. under the guise of inquiring about dry cleaning. He asked the clerk for some change, and when the employee opened the cash register he jumped over the counter and grabbed money.

“A struggle ensued between the suspect and the clerk and another employee who jumped in to help,” Capt. Elwell said.

The man fled in a green sport utility vehicle that was backed up to the business and in view of the clerks, who copied down the South Carolina license plate number - 822-DWT.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked the call the sheriff’s office at (800) 922-9709.
