Lancaster County Sheriff's Maj. David Belk said the girls were found Friday at a Lancaster apartment complex. Authorities said they believe 29-year-old Gerardo Reyes-Campos took 1-year-old Destiny and 3-year-old Melanie to the complex shortly after leaving the family's Lancaster home.
Authorities said Reyes-Campos stabbed his common-law wife, Diane Madisol Trejo, in the neck and hands during a fight around 6 p.m. Thursday
Belk said Trejo was in critical but stable condition at a Columbia hospital Friday.
Authorities originally thought Reyes-Campos headed to North Carolina but now say they think he went south toward Columbia.
