BLACKVILLE, S.C. — A Blackville plant that makes air conditioning and heating equipment is closing, leaving about 350 workers without a job.

Allied Air Enterprises spokesman Ozzie Buckler told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg that the Barnwell County plant will beginning shutting down this year and will be closed by 2011.

Officials say about 50 jobs will be moved to the company's other plants in Orangeburg and Mexico.

The company blames the economic collapse and the downturn in the housing market.

The plant draws workers from three counties with some of the highest unemployment rates in South Carolina. Allendale County's unemployment rate was 19.7 percent in December; Barnwell County was at 15.8 percent; and Bamberg County was at 15.5 percent.

"The company blames the economic collapse and the downturn in the housing market"? Well duh, this is what happens when you keeping sending our jobs to Mexico and other countries!! People, WE HAVE GOT TO STAND UP FOR OURSELVES! It's pretty obvious the government doesn't give a crap! If we don't find a way to stop this, we have lost our country.

SC governor Sanford and

SC governor Sanford and Senator Jim DeMint are pushing to have DeMint's proposed plan for Economic Recovery admitted to Congress. It cuts out a lot of the President's (so called) stimulis plan. It follows time proven steps to "recover" the economy, not simply give away "pork" and virtually no aid to lower and middle class, as proposed by the President/Democratic Congress.

Check DeMint's website or call him.

Ask any lawyer who has

Ask any lawyer who has represented railroads and large corporations before juries in those three SC counties, They will tell you that, without exception, the citizens who serve as jurors in those counties have returned exhorbitant verdicts against the corporations, far in excess of verdicts seen anywhere else in America, in similar cases. For them to complain that such companies are "running for the exits" in their communities is a lot like he who kills his parents and throws himself upon the mercy of the court as an orphan. Their ignorance of cause and effect is their choice, not their plight.

Well regardless of who's at

Well regardless of who's at fault, something's gotta be done. Nearly 5 million people are out of work and the numbers keep getting higher. Seems like everyone forgot how Microsoft screwed it's employees out of their jobs, then brought in workers from other countries. This can't keep going on.
