Morris Publishing Group announced Tuesday that it has hired Lazard Freres & Co. as its financial advisor and Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg as legal counsel.

"These firms will assist us in evaluating our strategic options regarding Morris Publishing's existing capital structure," stated William S. Morris III, chairman and CEO of Morris Communications Co., in a news release.

Morris Publishing, an affiliate of Morris Communications, is a privately held media company based in Augusta. The company publishes 13 daily newspapers, including The Augusta Chronicle. Its other holdings include non-daily newspapers, city magazines and free community publications in the Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and Alaska.
