Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Karen Chrjapin tendered her resignation on Thursday, according to the chamber board's chairman John Smith.

Mr. Smith said Ms. Chrjapin continues to work for the chamber until the board meets to discuss the matter. He said the situation is “very amicable.”

Ms. Chrjapin has been executive director since March 2007.

Mr. Smith said the chamber's executive committee will meet tomorrow and the full board of directors on Thursday to discuss the matter.

Ms. Chrjapin was contacted this morning but was unable to comment on the matter.

Mr. Smith said the resignation was unexpected.

This should have occurred

This should have occurred April 2007. Karen is not a reprentative of the majroity of the membership and she has made the chamber a laughing stock in the news paper especially with the issue involving the school board.
