AIKEN - Police in Anderson have made an arrest in connection with the death of an Aiken man whose body was found in his burned home late Saturday, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said today.

The body of George Woltz Jr. was found in his home at 845 Westover St. An autopsy determined that he died of asphyxiation.

On Sunday morning police arrested Alan Fitzgerald, who was found in a white Mercedes outside an Anderson apartment complex. Witnesses had told police that the victim's roommate and three other men were in and out of the victim's residence before the fire started and that they were driving a white Mercedes.

Mr. Fitzgerald was charged with possession of stolen property by Anderson police. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office currently has a hold on Mr. Fitzgerald for arson and grand larceny, and more charges are pending, according to Lt. Troy Elwell of the sheriff's office.
