GBI won't release shooting video until investigation completed

Video shot from the dashboard of sheriff’s deputies’ patrol cars recorded the shooting of an Augusta man Sunday afternoon, but the video isn’t being released publicly.

GBI Special Agent Gary Nicholson said this morning that the video is considered evidence in the investigation of the deputies to determine if they were justified in the shooting of Justin Leonard Elmore.

Because it is considered evidence, it won’t be released until after the investigation is completed, he said.

On Monday, Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength said the video appears to show that his officers, Jose Rivera Ortiz and Michael Hodge, acted appropriately in shooting a man who tried to ram Deputy Ortiz with his SUV.

The SS covering for the

The SS covering for the Gestapo. You can assume that they are, at this very moment, altering the film. It's probably on it's way to a secret lab somewhere. What does it matter if it's "evidence" or not? It's not going to change anything on the film by showing it. Does showing it to the public change any of the evidence? NO!! SO RELEASE IT!!! It just goes to show everyone that these people don't answer to anyone. They do what they want and bend the facts to suit their desired scenario.

Oh good grief usnvet. Take your conspiracy theories somewhere else. The video won't be altered, but it can't be released until the investigation is complete...just like in ANY investigation. If there IS something on the video that shows the deputies didn't act correctly, by showing the public you taint possible jurors for a future trial. So grow up and quit spouting this jargon about crooked law enforcement...you're just throwing fuel onto a fire of hatred.

They won't release it until after their investigation is complete. That's the right way to do things. It keeps people such as usnvet from going off half cocked.

Why not release it? Is it

Why not release it? Is it going to change anything? NO! They are altering it as we type. That you can be assured of! It's the only reason for NOT releasing it. How does us seeing ithe tape alter or change the investigation? It doesn't. They are just saying that to buy time to alter the tape. COVER UP!! COVER UP!! COVER UP!!

IN almost ANY criminal case,

IN almost ANY criminal case, the evidence is held for court otherwise you have a trial by the public before the jury can even be assembled, thus resulting in a tainted trial. So you honestly believe that someone is trying to alter the video in a case like this? How ridiculous. I have to agree with the other comments about who's hiding where. Hmm.. just a question here usnvet (thanks for your service but how did you ever make it with such ideas?) - did you vote in the recent presidential election and if so, for whom?

Maybe they are holding the video so they can store it in the next set of planes that they intend to shoot down out of the sky whilst pretending that they are actually being flown into government buildings. I bet that's it.

The GBI and RCPD are handling

The GBI and RCPD are handling this case the correct way. Just look at how they obtained a search warrant - they did not need one (weapons and drugs were visible in the SUV). They want to do this the correct way and they are doing a good job. I am just trying to figure out what the residents thought the cops should do. Felon, out on bail, has weapons and drugs and trys to run a cop over. Pray tell, what SHOULD the cops have done??!!! Let Elmore run them over?

Don't forget marshall that

Don't forget marshall that his probation officer tried to have his probation revoked and some really smart judge denied it. All of this could have and should have been avoided by judges doing their jobs!

Yeah, when you lack the

Yeah, when you lack the intelligence to argue your point, you resort to name calling. Very nice touch. One would think that the shills hired by the Gestapo to pepper these forums with their police state views would at least have enough sense to come up with something other than name calling. You people are a disgrace to the American flag! Any time an American is shot by a "peace officer" it is a disgrace! The truth is, if releasing the victims name and picture on the news doesn't taint the trial, how the heck is the video of the shooting supposed to taint it? You people have lost your minds and the real funny part is that you must think that everyone else has as well. Not Me! If the guy was raping, robbing or murdering someone then shooting the guy would be in order, but weed and driving off from a police stop aren't capital crimes. Sounds more like a sanctioned gang hit. That's right, there ARE COPS IN THE RCSO THAT ARE GANG MEMBERS!!

i would like to take a moment

i would like to take a moment to say that anyone defending J Elmore is wrong and the RCSO did what they had to do. there are no cover ups or conspiracies just what happened. The evidence in any trial is with held from the public until it is brought into the court and used. This guy obviously got what was coming to him, and if you say i don't know what i talk about, then tell me this. How do you justify grand theft auto(i'm not talking about the game, for the few ignorant people on here), possession of ILLEGAL drugs (illegal means they are against the law), attempted assault on a police officer (whose job is to serve and protect, so why would you want to hurt who protects you?). These are just a few of the crimes or many crimes i,m sure that Mr. Elmore committed. The police acted in self defense and Elmore got what was coming to him, END OF STORY!

There is no death penalty for

There is no death penalty for property crimes. You people are brainwashed into thinking the way you do. You go to work, come home and turn on the nightly propaganda without a clue of what is really going on. The TV news is just an extension of government and business views. Nothing but a pure propaganda outlet for those who can pay their exorbitant fees or for those who issue their licenses. Make no mistake people, if we don't stop this trigger happy department now, the next time it may be one of us dying on the streets. What happened here is not law and order. It's trigger happy cops using any excuse to blast away at what they perceive to be "bad guys". I bet the video shows that the officers were NEVER in any danger. Cops don't have a right to shoot citizens for petty crimes and those of you who think they do are mistaken. Innocent until proven guilty. Not the death penalty on the street handed out by those who barely hold a high school education.

Richmond County aren't

Richmond County aren't trained to shoot to disarm. They're trained to stop the threat. If someone's shooting at you, you don't aim for the gun, you aim for the shooter. The shooting was justified. The police are an aeest to their community and did the neighborhood a justice. Sleep better knowing a dangerous felon is off the streets. Too bad he couldn't give up his LIFE of crime and become a productive member of society.
