Police are searching for a man they believe robbed a Martinez store this morning.

A Columbia County sheriff’s canine unit is searching the wooded area behind the Dollar General for a man who robbed the store at gunpoint just before 9 a.m.

The man was armed with a semi-automatic pistol, according to police scanner traffic. He fled on foot into the wooded area.

The robber was described as black, about 6-feet tall, medium build and wearing a red, black and tan jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt, a white collared shirt and black pants.

Though reports are unclear if anyone was hurt during the robbery, an investigator at the scene said everyone was “OK.”
