COLUMBUS, Ga. - Police have arrested a man accused of trying to rob a group of young Christmas carolers at gunpoint.

Columbus police Lt. Charles Kennedy said 17-year-old Roderick D. Hill was arrested Friday about an hour after he pointed a gun at five children - ages 7 to 11 - and demanded their belongings. Kennedy said the children ran away before he could take anything, and none of them were injured.

Using information from the children, police found Hill at work at a nearby Church's restaurant with a gun in the front pocket of his jacket. Police say the 32-caliber handgun was stolen Nov. 12.

Hill is charged with five counts of attempted armed robbery and one count of theft by receiving stolen property. He is being held without bond at the Muscogee County jail.
