Lynx to fold

Augusta Lynx ownership has called a news conference for 7 p.m. tonight presumably to announce their intentions to fold the team.

A statement posted on the ECHL’s Web site Tuesday evening said, “the Augusta Lynx have suspended operations, effective immediately and voluntarily relinquished their membership back to the League.”

“We are very disappointed for our fans, league partners and the other member teams of the ECHL,” ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna said in the release. “The ECHL would like to thank the Lynx fans for all of their support.”

Lynx co-owner and general manager Dan Troutman would not confirm or deny the report, but said the team will hold the 7 p.m. news conference at Enterprise Mill in Augusta.
