Potential Augusta Lynx investors will not attend tonights home game, Lynx co-owner and general manager Dan Troutman said Saturday afternoon.
Troutman said Friday afternoon that the Lynx wont last beyond next week unless an investor or group of investors can be found and that he hoped one or two such potential investors could attend tonights home game to get a look at the team and game atmosphere.
I havent gotten a commitment from either one, Troutman said Saturday afternoon.
Troutman wouldnt identify the potential investors other than to say that both were from out of town. He made an appeal on Friday asking Lynx fans to fill the James Brown Arena in hopes of wooing the would-be investors.
It might make the conversation easier if the building is flat full of people. It cant hurt anything at all, he said.
Update your resume Trout.
The South and hockey is a mismatch. I like it a bit, but it's just not a fit and it's painfully obvious.
I love hockey, and personally know many others here who do as well. We would hate to see the Lynx go, but sneakypete is partially correct, hockey does thrive in other southern towns, just not here. Having the building full for one game will not change anything in the Lynx future - most investors are smarter than that.
This is a military town. There are people from all over the world
here.Stop trying to stick Augusta into a southern corner with nothing but Bulldogs.
Maybe the coliseum authority should take that $150,000 they seem so intent on paying a consultant and invest it in their biggest tenant instead.
metoo may be right, there maybe many people who like hockey, but not enough of them are willing to pay the price to go to the arena and support the Lynx. IMHO, I think a lot of it is the sad sad shape the arena is in, plus the few people that do show up at the arena for a game, just loud drunks.
This is really a shame. Hockey is one of the few sports I actually enjoy, and, as long as those select drunken morons behave decently, I love going to Lynx games. I also know many other people who enjoy seeing the Lynx. I hope someone can jump in and find some sort of solution which will allow the Lynx to remain.
I do agree with "me too" and "sneakypete", though. Hockey, generally, does not thrive in the southern states. And jhuran, sorry, but Augusta IS a southern city in a southern state, and hockey isn't a big sport in the south. Also, Augusta doesn't just have the Bulldogs; we have the Falcons, Ga. Tech, Gamecocks, etc. :p
Going to a hockey game isn't expensive, even buying drinks and snacks it's still a cheap night out but when you add $5 for parking it gets to be expensive. $5?!?!?! And they wonder why!?!
