SSU shooting suspect still at large

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah State University police continue to search for a suspect in today’s on-campus shooting of a student.

According to Chief Thomas Trawick, the shooting occurred during an altercation between two students in the University Commons student housing facility. The shooting was reported at 11:42 a.m.

The shooting victim, who has not been identified, is undergoing emergency surgery at a local hospital.

Trawick said police have recovered a gun and searched the suspect’s dorm room.

He would not provide a description of the suspect.

The campus remains on lockdown while the search for the suspect continues.

"We have locked our doors and are keeping our students inside," said Tara Cox, a marine biologist at the university.

As of mid-afternoon, people were being allowed to leave the historically black college, but no one was allowed to come onto the campus.

We are in a mess. Yet,

We are in a mess. Yet, taking away American citizens rights to own guns will not rid this country of violence. It will just make your average, every day citizens easier targets for the criminals. Whether you want to believe it or not, criminals will always find a way to have firearms. I, for one, believe in our Constitution, and the 2nd Amendment is part of our countries original "bill of rights". If our court system punished criminals accordingly, instead of setting them free with a slap on the wrist, maybe the wannabe's would think twice before committing crimes. I feel sorry for Obama already, too many people think he's going to be a quick fire fix it for everything that is wrong in the US. We'll have to wait and see if he can live up to the hype his campaign put out for "Change". So far, lots of the same old faces are filling up his cabinet - let's hope it won't be the same old mistakes from the past.

News sources stated that the

News sources stated that the shooting was accidental and only one person hurt, but not seriously. Everyone seems to be jumping to conclusions and over-reacting. And D1216, Obama isn't going to "fix" anything, so please don't hold your breath!

what is a gun doing on campus

what is a gun doing on campus anyway???? now you know there is going to be some kind of lame explaination like the shooter was "playing around" or "the gun dropped" or the best of them all "he really didn't mean to shoot the victim, the gun just went off"

once again someone gets

once again someone gets shot.....school shootings were happening long before Obama....the man is the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES people...not GOD...he cannot control what a person does....there is gonna be crime no matter who the president is....so blame this on no one but the person responsible...you people are ridiculous...i didn't see comments like this when the little 8 yr old boy killed his father and his father's friend in AZ but I guess there is a good reason behind that one....

I see D1216, so some dumb

I see D1216, so some dumb college kid breaks the law and we take away all the guns. Maybe some hood robs a bank wearing a FUBU hoodie and we Outlaw FUBU hoodies. Then some moron throws a 40 through a car window and we ban 40s. Seems logical to an idiot maybe. People, espescially stupid peolpe, will use sticks, stones, knives, baseball bats, meat forks, and a wide variety of ordinary everyday objects as weapons, are we to ban all of them too. Maybe we ought to make the bad people go away, then the rest of us,who happen to be law abiding, can continue on with our lives without them.
