John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School was named by the Georgia Department of Education as one of 26 Schools of Excellence this morning.

Today's recognition honors schools in each congressional district in two categories: greatest improvement and highest achievement. Davidson was honored for being in the top 10 percent of schools in Georgia as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.

The Georgia Schools of Excellence will be honored at a banquet on Jan. 23 at the Georgia International Conference Center in College Park.

you would think the RCBOE would follw the lead of davidson/johnson and c t walker and turn more of the other schools in the district into magnet schools. well i gues that's a bad idea because that will reduce the opportunities of the inept members of the school board to waste valuable taxpayers dollars on useless programs or football stadiums/b-ball gyms for schools that graduate less than 50% of its senior class. i feel sorry for the taxpayers whose board members are not up for re-election and have to suffer thru the continued incompetence and financail mismanagement while i have no sympathies whatsoever for the morons who put the same school board members back in office who assisted in driving the school system in the ground in the first place. my only wish is that the 3 magnet schools could be expanded to allow more children to attend that are now on the waiting list and allow the remaining schools to collapse under their own weight of mismanagement and missplaced priorities that empahsize sports and useless programs geared towards sorry and trifling students at the expense of those who truly want and desire an education in order to become productive members of society
