Man pulled from river after chase

A police chase ended Sunday night with deputies pulling a man from the Savannah River.

According to Richmond County Sheriff's Sgt. David Bourbo, deputies began pursuing the man, whose name was not immediately available, in the Harrisburg area shortly before 11 p.m. They were staking out a home as part of an ongoing investigation, he said.

The man led deputies to Riverwalk Augusta near 10th Street, where he abandoned the car and jumped into the Savannah River. Sgt. Bourbo said he would be charged with several traffic violations.
