A 26-year-old Evans man was killed early today in a traffic accident.

Authorities said Sergio Lopez, of Meadow Lane, was the vctim.

The accident took place about 2:20 a.m. on Owens Road, said Sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.

The victim is believed to have lost control of his Ford F-150 truck, overcorrected then crashed. He was ejected from the vehicle, Capt. Morris said.

More than likely, it was a crash, not an accident. When you run off the road, you don't have to "overcorrect" to crash. The jolt of running off the pavement can jerk the steering wheel out of your hands and the car will be out of control, careening from side to side. It is very, very important to pay attention and keep the car on the road, especially in SC which is notorious for low shoulders along roads.

ummm...and drunk.

malachi72

do you know him personally to know if he was drunk???????

Another one ejected. When will people learn to buckle up?

cathieisgood

2:20 am - either drunk or asleep at the wheel.

drunk...trust me.

I find it very amusing that because someone crashes at 2:20 in the morning people automatically think someone is driving while intoxicated! Have you ever heard of shift work??? This man may have just left work and was heading home! Don't jump to conclusions until the facts come out!

i find it amusing that people ignore the obvious and take pity on the foolish.

Did he get his drivers license in Mexico City?

crackerjack

Where did it say he had a Drivers License. All I read was, he was driving.

A man is dead and you all find humor in leaving these terrible comments.

justtired

Some of you need serious help.

You Augustans make me sick in how insincere you all can be. You again have giving me another reason to get out of this town. Pity on you if anything like this ever happens to your family.

I'd like to think that the people of Augusta are better than those who write on AOL and other public links. We are certainly entitled to your opinion but there are certainly times and places where tact and decency should be applied. They barely had any information on the accident and people start making rude and inappropriate comments. The AC really needs to look at this whole process.

A man has tragically passed away. His family and friends are suffering. Please show some respect.

Have you ever had a friend or love one killed in the middle of the night? Alcohol is NOT always a factor...YOU JERK! Glad to see you're off here when I get on.

Apparently the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, because he was ejected from his vehicle during the crash. No matter what other circumstances were involved, that oversite cost him his life.
