36-1 long shot Desert Code wins BC Turf Sprint

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Desert Code overtook Diabolical in the final strides to win the inaugural $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint by a half-length at Santa Anita.

Sent off at 36-1 odds, Desert Code ran 6½ furlongs in 1:11.60 under Richard Migliore and paid $75, $30.80 and $21 on Saturday.

Diabolical returned $7.60 and $5.20, while Storm Treasure was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $9.20 to show.

It was Migliore's first Breeders' Cup victory, while trainer David Hofmans earned his third.
