A 67-year-old former Aiken County school administrator arrested Tuesday by state agents on sexual assault charges was freed on $25,000 bond this afternoon.

Stephen Eubanks of the 300 block of Belair Road in North Augusta faces charges of lewd act upon a child under the age of 16, exposing of private parts, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and one count of enticing children from school. The judge set bond at $5,000 for each charge.

Agents with the State Law Enforcement Division said their investigation began on Sept. 19 at the request of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.

According to SLED, the incidents occurred between 1975 and 1977 and involved a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, who were students at North Augusta High School and Paul Knox Junior High School, now Paul Knox Middle School.

According to Augusta Chronicle archives, Mr. Eubanks was an assistant principal at the high school and later principal at the junior high school.

It's possible that the

It's possible that the victims are getting the courage to come forward, or they are lying. Either way, for once, it would be nice if the court system decides on this persons guilt or innocence, instead of the court of public opinion. If he's guilty, he should be punished appropriately. The thing I don't like about articles like this, is that sometimes the accused is actually innocent, but the public forever associates that person with a heinous crime they didn't commit. Too much of "the public has the right to know" can ruin peoples lives.

It is possible that this

It is possible that this crime never occurred. Steve is certainly not under investigation for any other more recent crimes( mable8 3:48pm) And I have known him all of my life and he would never do the things he is being accused of.

God bless him and the children. I just made a comment from the Lord on the previous posting as well. We have to restore our brother as the word says. we have to restore all involved by leading them to Christ. God loves us but he hates sin. May God bless all of you as WE continue to walk in GOD'S GRACE AND MERCY DAILY. GOD'S GRACE AND MERCY IS SUFFICIENT FOR US.
All things work together for the GOOD for those who love the Lord and are be called according to his purpose. Be blessed and I love all of you. Children, be strong in THE LORD AND IN THE POWER IG HIS MIGHT.

I do not know this man --

I do not know this man -- just what I read here. The problem is once a person is accused and their name goes in the newspaper -- the public assumes them guilty and that is the end of it. The public imagines they are guilty and there is no convincing them otherwise. Personally, I find it difficult to believe anyone could offer any believable testimony after 30 years.

Hey, have all of you had your heads in the sand, or just stupid?
Does Malone ring a bell? He lived in my neighborhood when I was a kid in the 70's, I didn't have a clue about him either. They said that there would be more investigations and I'm sure this is related. Watch the news.

It's amazing how many sex pervs have defenders... All of them. Not saying this man is guilty, just that it's pretty strange for SLED to file specious charges against a 67 year old school administrator. And it's not unusual for a judge to set bail at $5000/charge for a sex perv.

This is the same guy that

This is the same guy that accused the "Shock Theatre" dude of the same crimes. Doesn't it seem fishy that this guy was getting molested repeatedly by more than one person and waits 30 years to bring it up? Perhaps he should be looked at a little more closely by the cops. I saw him on TV yesterday talking about a "civil trial" to get restitution. This has got to seem fishy to someone other than me...right? Thirty years later he accuses 2 seperate people of the same crime? FISHY!!!!

USNVET, first of all, the one

USNVET, first of all, the one who is accusing Mr. Eubanks was not David, the one who accused Meloan. David is just backing up the accuser, as he had personal knowledge of Mr. Eubanks molesting his brother. All of you folks who are upset that people waited 30 years to come forward...OTHER evidence corroborated David's story and the perpetrator has already plead guilty. I am sure that there will be more evidence besides Mr. Lass' testimony. These people have gone through a personal hell for 30 years and have not necessarily come forward willingly, but at the urging of friends/relatives who have known their stories for years. It is high time that these molesters are exposed, along with all the other adult molesters of that day. I only hope that they are scared, too, and quaking in their boots. I went to NASH in the 70's; I was not molested, but was approached by another adult of that day (not in the news) and was able to fight him off; I only hope that they are all exposed and their little sex ring comes to light.
