ATLANTA -- A medical educator from Ohio has been named dean of the new Athens satellite campus of the Medical College of Georgia.

Dr. Barbara Schuster, a professor at Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine and former chair of the school’s internal medicine department, will start work Nov. 1, state officials said.

“We are very pleased with her successful recruitment,” said MCG President Dr. Dan Rahn. “She has a skill set and a national profile that we think are just going to be great for this role.”

Wright was a joint hire of MCG and the University of Georgia, which are partnering on the new campus.

“I think this is a great opportunity and good for the state of Georgia,” Schuster said in a press release announcing the hiring. “No partnership exists like this. It’s a wonderful way to think about expansion for other states.”
