Fort Gordon listening operation questioned in ABC news report

  • Follow Latest News

ABC News reported today that hundreds of U.S. citizens overseas who called friends and family back home were eavesdropped on by employees of a listening center based at Fort Gordon.

The news broadcast quoted two former military intercept operators who worked at the National Security Agency center at the military base outside Augusta.

"These were just really everyday, average, ordinary Americans who happened to be in the Middle East, in our area of intercept and happened to be making these phone calls on satellite phones," said Adrienne Kinne, an Army Reserves Arab linguist assigned to a special military program at the NSA's facility from November 2001 to 2003.

Ms. Kinne described the contents of the calls as "personal, private things with Americans who are not in any way, shape or form associated with anything to do with terrorism," according to the ABC report.

Fort spokesmen are referring all questions to the National Security Administration. A spokeswoman for that agency said this morning that no information would be provided at this time.

ABC news has quite the nose

ABC news has quite the nose for news. What is the story here? Where is the "impropriety" or alleged "gross" violations scrawled by the above? Explain why someones azz should be nailed. You work for ABC? I'm eliciting a response, and can't wait to read it.

I would have thought all

I would have thought all calls from a nation where we are at war, and where bad guys are lurking, would be scrutinized - and that it would have been a good thing. If you go to ABC News website and read the ENTIRE story, you'll see what was left out of the abbreviated version above - that this eavesdropping program also managed to catch a lot of the bad guys and disarm IEDs before they blew our youngsters to bits. I'm all for the constitution, but if letting someone listen in on my calls would help save lives whenever they listened in on the RIGHT calls, it's fine with me.

Quick Margo ABC has learned

Quick Margo ABC has learned that civilians and soldiers in the mid east and their families are all suspected terrorists! This must be the case or else our government wouldn't be listening to their intimate conversations, would they. Just remember there is a "terrorist under every rock" as the President keeps saying. I'm still trying to find out what conversations went on in that room of terrorists (congress) where all the deals were made. I would bet there were more laws broken in that 1/2 day than in the past ten years, and all in the name of saving US.

Fort Gordon, Home of the

Fort Gordon, Home of the Signal Tower ~~ was created for the purpose of monitoring military and/or covert communications all over the world and reporting back to Armed Forces, NASA, CIA and others. Anyone affiliated with the military, whether as dependents of active duty, DOD employees, active duty military have already been forewarned any and all conversations on an open communication line will be listened in on and possibly recorded. So, again, what's the issue and where's the story here?

In this day and age, you should understand that there is someone that can hear your conversations whether they want to or not. I've heard some bleeding over even onto my land line that I wish I could delete from my memory. Too much information!

#1-The fine men and women in

#1-The fine men and women in our military are informed that their phone calls are listened to.
#2-When this was ran, they showed a satellite picture of the base and where the listening center is based (right near all of us!) Does anyone else think that is ridiculous??? They are sticking a bullseye on that place for not only terrorists but also for any joe blow who gets mad at W. or the government.
#3-Who cares if they listen? We are at war! If they want to listen to my phone conversations, they are more than welcome! I have nothing to hide. A small price to pay for the safety of myself, my family, and America.

The readers' perceptions of

The readers' perceptions of Ft. Gordon are somewhat skewed. Ft. Gordon is the home of the Army Signal Corps. The mission of the Signal Corps is to "get the message from the foxhole to the Pentagon" and vice versa. The call monitoring activity on which ABC news reported is run by the National Sercurity Agency - NSA. The NSA is an agency of the government and is not military. the commander of Ft. Gordon is probably well aware of the listening center's mission, but Ft. Gordon does not run the activity. By saying that Ft. Gordon is specifically engaged in only eavesdrop activities is an aspersion to the Signal Corps and its qualified, dedicated soldiers who put their life on the line each time a combat unit needs communication support. Signal Corps is "first in - last out". please do not condemn Ft. Gordon as some agency that spies on the average American - it does not.

jezzz.....you people should

jezzz.....you people should get a grip......your everyday neighbor next door probably knows as much about you as anyone....and do most of you realize that your home computers are so unsecure that almost anyone can go in and get your information off of it......your should worry more about what credit information you have on your personal computer than what our government is listening to......personally i'm happy and proud of my intimate moments with my wife and if they want to hear it all more power to them......maybe some of those young people will learn a thing or two....more men should learn how to properly treat a woman to keep her happy

The current administration

The current administration sends moble homes to our disaster victims in every state knowing the toxic conditions of these units. Yes, FEMA manipulates the data and puts American's in harms way whenever there are people who survive hurricanes, floods, etc. I have seen it done, know how it is done, and witnessed it myself. Listening in on telephone calls is nothing new, and is acceptable when you consider the toxins given to American's in America.

Read about toxic trailers,

Read about toxic trailers, firings at the Atlanta CDC due to their findings of false test results submitted by FEMA concerning formaldehyde testing. These mold, mildew infested, and toxic trailers are our first response to victims of a disaster. I heard the orders from Washington, DC, from a high ranking FEMA official to "pass them as clean". They are then distributed to all states, and American Indian tribes. First, we killed American Indians with toxic blankets, now it is a new toxic mobile home. A phone call, trailers, toxins, taxes, bailouts, and etc. We need to watch our governments actions, they are the legal terrorists.
