As of 9 p.m., long lines were seen at such locations as the Kroger gas station at Alexander Drive and Washington Road; an independently-owned station on Washington Road near Calhoun Expressway; the Sprint on Belair Road in Martinez; the Kuntry Store gas station on Windsor Spring Road, where traffic stretched a half mile; and the Kroger station on Washington Road in Evans.
A Pilot station on River Watch Parkway in Augusta had long lines up until 9:10 p.m. when a worker announced to customers that they had run out of gas, causing one customer to begin shouting expletives. Also, deputies were called to that station after a man reportedly threatened to tie a chain to a pump and pull it with him after being told there was no gas, according to an Augusta 911 dispatcher.
All but two stations in North Augusta were without gas Thursday night, a dispatcher said. Many stations also were without gas in Columbia and Richmond counties. Dispatchers said two men got into a fight over gas at Kelly’s Mini Mart on Washington Road in Augusta, and in Aiken County a few skirmishes were reported at a station on U.S. Highway 25 near Sweetwater Road.
