Madison Bumgarner's dominance for the Augusta GreenJackets continued Wednesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium, as the 19-year-old shut down the Asheville Tourists and the GreenJackets scratched out a run for a 1-0 win in the opener of the teams' three-game playoff series.
Bumgarner allowed only three hits and struck out 10 in eight innings. He also picked off three Tourists. Andrew De La Garza pitched the ninth to earn the save.
Asheville starter Connor Graham allowed only one hit while also striking out 10 in eight innings for a complete game. The only run Graham allowed was unearned.
The GreenJackets managed the only run of the game in the sixth inning. After James Simmons walked, Andrew Davis reached on a throwing error by Graham and Simmons advanced to third. Shane Jordan walked to load the bases, and after a Dom Duggan strikeout, Nick Noonan's sacrifice fly scored Simmons.
The next game in the series is scheduled for Friday in Asheville, N.C. If necessary, the third and deciding game also would be played in Asheville.
