An Evans woman died Sunday morning in a single-vehicle wreck on Washington Road in Columbia County.

Sloan Elizabeth Cleary, 19, of Rocky Shoals Circle, died from blunt force trauma at about 1:30 a.m. when her sport utility vehicle flipped, Columbia County Chief Deputy Coroner Bonnie King said. Miss Cleary, a 2007 Evans High School graduate, was driving west at Blanchard Road when it appeared she reached for something or was otherwise distracted and her SUV veered across the eastbound lanes striking a culvert at Blanchard Road, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office accident report. The SUV skidded across Blanchard Road and flipped multiple times after hitting a ditch on the other side.

Miss Cleary, who was not wearing a safety belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, Ms. King said. Neither drug nor alcohol use is suspected, Ms. King said.
