Augustan advances to U.S. Amateur quarterfinals

Augustan Patrick Reed outlasted Brandon Detweiler in the U.S. Amateur round of 16 this afternoon at Pinehurst No. 2. Reed made par on the 23rd hole, while Detweiler bogeyed the par-4 hole.

A University of Georgia freshman, Reed advances to the quarterfinals, needing two more wins to qualify for the 2009 Masters Tournament. Reed will face Graham Hill of Canada at 10:45 Friday morning.

In his morning match, Reed defeated Brady Exber, 3 and 2.
