Regional schools show ACT improvement

Four local schools were recognized this morning for making the largest gains on the ACT college entrance exam in 2008.

The schools were Lakeside High School with a 2.4-point gain, A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet High School with a 2.2-point gain, Burke County High School with a 2.1-point gain and Jenkins County High School with a 2-point gain, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Lakeside was also recognized for earning the second highest score of any school in the state. Its composite score was 24.9 with a 36 being perfect.

Statewide, composite scores increased slightly from 20.3 to 20.6. Nationally, scores slipped from 21.2 to 21.1.
