Late night accidents prove fatal in Aiken, Edgefield counties

Two people are dead after cars wrecks in Edgefield and Aiken Counties Monday night.

Authorities in Edgefield County pronounced 18-year-old William Harrel Snell, of Columbia, dead at the scene following a single vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 25 at about 8:10 p.m., according to Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett.

Mr. Snell’s Buick Le Sabre struck a utility pole less than a mile south of Lloyd Road. He was ejected from the vehicle, officials said.

In Aiken County, James Johnson, 27, of Augusta, lost control of his vehicle about 10:10 p.m. on Pine Log Road and struck a tree. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, police said.
