ATHENS, Ga. -- Hunker down Bulldog fans, Larry Munson is indeed planning on returning to the radio booth to call Georgia home football games this season.

Munson, 85, underwent brain surgery in April to repair a subdural hematoma, and is in the final weeks of rehabilitation. He expects not only to make a full recovery, but to call Georgia games for the 43rd straight season.

“Larry has every intention of calling the Georgia home games this season and is ready for the football season to begin,” according to a statement released by the Munson family today.

Athletic director Damon Evans told the Banner-Herald in July that he was anticipating that Munson would return.

Munson’s family provided some details publicly for the first time about his recovery.

After surgery at St. May’s Hospital on April 4, Munson was moved to Shepherd Center in Atlanta to continue his rehab.

“The Munson family wishes to personally thank all the doctors, nurses and therapists at St. Mary’s Hospital, the Shepherd Center and Athens Regional who have worked very hard to help Larry make a full recovery,” the family’s statement said.

“The family would also like to thank his employer, Cox Radio and the University of Georgia, for being so understanding at such a crucial time in Larry’s life. Thanks again to all the fans that sent cards and letters wishing Larry well.”

Munson will limit his speaking engagements, autograph sessions and interviews so he can be focused on calling games.

Scott Howard and Eric Zeier, the team that called road games last season, will again call games away from Sanford Stadium this season.
