COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of South Carolina says it has set a record for private giving for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
The school brought in more than $106 million in private gifts from nearly 46,000 donors, also an all-time high. The previous record was $96.5 million set in 1997-98.
Eighteen gifts totaled $1 million or more, compared with eight such gifts in the previous year.
The largest donation was a $10 million increase in the endowment for the McNair Scholars Program by the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation. The program was established by alumnus Robert McNair and his wife, Janice, with a $20 million gift in 1998.
Earlier this month, Clemson University said its private giving totaled $79.5 million in the 2007-08 fiscal year.
