An afternoon storm knocked down multiple trees onto roadways in Columbia County.

A large number of trees were blown down during a brief, intense storm around I-20 at the Baker Place Road overpass in Columbia County.

Multiple trees were down on Washington Road near the Pollard’s Corner area of Appling, according to an e-mail from Columbia County Emergency Services. Two trees fell onto Chamblin Road near the site of Grovetown High School.

Also, dime-sized hail was reported on parts of Chamblin Road, according to the e-mail.

Traffic is backed up on the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near the weigh station where there has been a downed tree and a wreck involving two tractor-trailers, according to police.
